Grandpa Reeves Recordings

Long ago, my great-grandpa, Glen Reeves, cut a record! For real. He made one of the those big black disk things that you put on that funny spinning table thing and music came out. Somehow my parents ended up with the the last known “copy”. Literally a copy. It was a recording from the original record onto a tape. So, in grand tradition of copying, I have moved them into the digital realm. It has been many years. I don’t even know how many. Sadly, the recordings probably do and have suffered a bit. I have used my limited knowledge to get them the best I can and here they are.

If anyone has the original record, I would love to talk to you. Probably send it off to get professionally “ripped”. I doubt it, because the family has been searching for years, but… who knows. The internet is a big place.

Title Unknown (If you know it, put it in the comments!)

When Irish Eyes Are Shining

The Girl That I Marry (I think that’s the title. But hey, what are comments for anyway)

I Love You Truly

Danny Boy (My Favorite)

Title Unknown (It seems to perhaps be some kind of Psalm or prayer)

If you would like to download them, here are the links. However, if you aren’t related to me and Glen Reeves, please don’t take them, or use them for anything.

  1. Here are the titles and lyrics to the two “Title Unknown” songs:

Both of the songs were popular with Perry Como singing them.

    Title Unknown 1:

    Lonesome, That’s All
Words and Music by Ben J. Bradley and Lee S. Roberts

    It seems like a year
    since I’ve seen you dear
yet I know it’s been only a day
    yet the hours seem long
    and the world goes wrong
    for it’s empty with you away . . .

And I wake from each dream
    of your loveliness,
to sink once again into loneliness,
and I’d give all the world for just one caress,
    I’m lonesome, I guess, that’s all!

The faces I see don’t appear to me
for it’s your face I long for today,
    with it’s wonderful smile
    that makes life worthwhile,
for it drives all my cares away . . .

And I dream of your lips
    and your eyes of blue,
and wonder if your heart is dreaming too?
And my own heart is cryin’ the whole day through
I’m lonesome, for you, that’s all!

    Title Unknown 2:

    Bless This House
    – Words and Music by Helen Taylor, and May H. Morgan (aka Brahe) , 1927

Bless this house, Oh Lord we pray
Make it safe by night and day.

Bless these walls so firm and stout
    Keeping want and trouble out.

Bless the roof and chimneys tall
Let thy peace lie over all.

Bless this door that it may prove
Ever open to joy and love.

    Bless these windows shining bright
    Letting in God’s heavenly light.

    Bless the hearth, a-blazing there
With smoke ascending like a prayer.

    Bless the people here within
Keep them pure and free from sin.

Bless us all that we may be
Fit Oh Lord to dwell with thee.

Bless us all that we, one day, may dwell
    Oh Lord, with thee.
